Mastopexy (Breast Lift) surgery can be done if you are happy with your breast size but are unhappy with your breast shape. The most important question you need to ask yourself is whether you are happy with your breast size. If you are, then I would always recommend mastopexy alone. This requires that you have enough breast tissue to achieve the breast size and shape you are trying to achieve. When you are not happy with your breast size or when you do not have enough breast tissue to create a breast that has the size and shape you desire, adding a breast implant at the time of your mastopexy can typically provide the volume and shape you are looking for. I typically offer a breast implant to patients at the time of their mastopexy when the patient is seeking to change their breast size and breast shape. I do recommend that patients only have definitive breast surgery, either with a breast implant alone (Breast Augmentation), a breast lift alone (Mastopexy), or a (Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift/Mastopexy) when they are at a stable weight that they plan to maintain. Body weight changes can affect the appearance of the breast. I teach these concepts and operative strategies to Plastic Surgeons at the annual ASAPS meeting in my course called Primary Breast Augmentation and Augmentation Mastopexy. Recently I also spoke as a panelist at this same meeting. At your consultation we will discuss your long term maternity goals because pregnancy and lactation often changes your breast size and shape.
