Pregnancy, weight loss, breast feeding, and the ever-present gravitational forces can make a woman’s breasts sag and appear empty or deflated. Breast lift, with or without breast implants, is a surgical procedure to at least temporarily reshape sagging and often wide breasts.

Many women desire a breast lift or mastopexy, because pregnancy and breast feeding have left them with less volume in their breasts and stretched skin that has lost its elasticity. While there are no special risks that affect future pregnancies such as interference with breast feeding, Dr. Casas recommends postponing breast lift surgery until you have had all your children since pregnancy is likely to stretch your breasts again and offset the results of the procedure.

Dr. Casas will examine your breasts she will discuss the variables that may affect the procedure including the size and shape of your breasts, the elasticity of your skin, and whether an implant is advisable. If your nipples point downward due to sagging of your breasts, Dr. Casas will discuss the proper higher repositioning of your nipple and areola during the procedure.

Typically, patients undergo local or general anesthesia for auto augmentation breast lift surgery. Techniques during the breast lift surgery vary, and together you will select the procedure and incisions that will best meet your expectations.

Case Study

This is a 32-year-old female who had four children and nursed all for 6-8 months. The patient liked the volume of her breasts (34D) but wanted an improved shape without an implant. Under local anesthesia, Dr. Laurie Casas transformed this patients sagging 34 D cup breasts into a youthful full projecting breasts by safely rearranging the patients breast tissue without using a breast implant in a procedure Dr. Casas designed called Superior Pedicle Auto Augmentation Mastopexy. Dr. Casas published her first series after creating this technique to rearrange breast tissue without adding an implant in patients that desire an improved breast shape without a breast implant.

Dr. Casas has taught Plastic Surgeons her innovative technique, which she named Superior Pedicle Auto Augmentation Mastopexy, that uses your own breast tissue to create a new breast shape without using an implant. She published this technique in 2010 and has performed this procedure on over 130 patients. Often times patients prefer this procedure to breast lift and implant surgery because they are satisfied with their breast size and do not want to have larger breasts. Auto augmentation Mastopexy is typically performed under local anesthesia and patients return to normal activities the next day. Dr. Casas asks that you protect your breasts from excessive scarring by limiting your arm activity for six weeks. Dr. Casas and her staff will instruct you on safe ways to use your arms and the best bras to wear during your recovery. Most patients return to lower body exercise in three days.

After Superior Pedicle Auto Augmentation Mastopexy surgery, Dr. Casas will place bandages which will be removed after two to three days. Pain and bruising will be managed with supplements and medications.

Healing is a gradual process. You will be up and about in a day or two and you may return to work as soon as a few days, depending on how you feel. Dr. Casas will ask you to avoid lifting anything over your head for three to four weeks to prevent the scars from spreading.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage, administered by massage, is used after each procedure to reduce swelling. The number of sessions is individualized. It is important that patients follow a healthy lifestyle leading up to and following procedures, including non-smoking, a healthy diet and daily vitamins. Click here to learn more.

What are the Potential Results of a Breast Lift?

The name of the procedure may seem self-explanatory, but the operation is actually capable of many different adjustments. The procedure can do much more than provide a simple boob lift, as it can help with the symmetry of your breasts, remove excess skin, adjust a sagging boob, achieve a more round appearance, and more.

Breast augmentation as a whole is a vast topic that offers numerous results and techniques to achieve the results you want. Although breast implants are becoming increasingly common, some women would prefer to adjust their appearance with other solutions. A breast lift is a stellar option if you’re happy with your breast size and you are looking for (minor) adjustments to the shape of your breast,   which include tightening breast tissue, reducing the size of the areolas, changing the direction and position of your nipples, and even non-surgical breast lift solutions.

As usual, you’ll have the chance to sit with Dr. Laurie Casas (your surgeon) to have a consultation before your breast lift, so you know what to expect. This will also give you the opportunity to have your questions answered ahead of time, and with the information given, you’ll be able to make the proper choice for the changes you’d like to make.

Are there Risks that Come with the Procedure?

Regardless of how safe a breast lift sounds on paper, it’s still a surgical operation, and it has its own risks and potential health complications. It’s possible to encounter issues such as scarring, blood clots, numbness, damage to nerves, infection, swelling, irregularities in your skin, and more. The list may seem daunting, but it’s quite rare to encounter many of these complications. It all starts with your health and the expertise of your surgeon.

Some of these potential risks are also dependent on what your surgery entails. Whether you’re looking to make changes to a sagging breast or simply want a minor change in your areolas, there are various complications that are associated with your particular procedure. Thankfully, Casas Aesthetics Plastic Surgery is known as one of the leaders for a breast lift in Chicago, and you’ll get unwavering expertise before, during, and after your procedure.

Your surgeon will ensure you’re fully aware of the potential risks, but it shouldn’t scare you from pursuing the procedure if that’s what you truly want. What’s more important than anything is the expertise and track record of the surgeon you decide to work with. This will give you the confidence needed to make a conscious decision, knowing you’re in good hands every step of the way. Although your health is the most important aspect of the operation, the cost of the procedure is a hurdle you’ll have to discuss as well.

How Much Do Breast Lifts Usually Cost?

It can be difficult to quote a solid number for a breast lift as so many different aspects of the surgery are factored into the final number. You can assume the procedure will easily run up into the thousands, but you’ll get a more definite number in your initial consultation with your surgeon. Considering it’s a cosmetic procedure, you won’t be able to rely on health insurance to help with the cost, so you should be prepared to look at it as an out-of-pocket expense.

The breast lift price may be higher or even lower than you expected, but your surgeon won’t hide any aspect of the cost in your consultation. They’ll also discuss the various payment options available, as it’s common for various payment plans to be available considering the costly nature of the surgery. Nevertheless, you never want to rush this procedure, and it’s essential that you’re prepared from all angles before you commit to the operation.

Preparing for Your Breast Lift Surgery

You’ll be happy to learn that there’s plenty you can do to ensure your surgery goes precisely how you hoped. Additionally, your surgeon should take a meticulous approach before your scheduled operation. This will include discussing your desired results, an in-depth look at your medical history, any medications you’re currently taking, and the use of any tobacco or alcohol, as well as recreational drugs. Some of this information may be seen as sensitive, but it’s vital that it’s covered beforehand as it can all play a factor in your surgery, overall health, and healing process.

It’ll also be necessary for your surgeon to take photos of your breasts, review different approaches for your operation, discuss the use of anesthesia, and take measurements of your breasts. These various discussions and examinations are important to determine if you’re a proper candidate for the procedure, in addition to developing the right approach for the results you’re looking for.

Depending on your health and various lifestyle choices, it isn’t uncommon for your surgeon to impose some requirements before they can approve the procedure. This can include a mammogram, physical exam, blood work, and they may ask you to stop smoking, drinking, or using particular medications.

It’s understandable that some of these requirements are more challenging than others, but if you want to protect your health throughout the entire process, it’s essential you follow each requirement your surgeon gives you without fail. Overall, if you’re looking for a breast lift in Chicago, Dr. Casas and her team (we’re)are always here to help, and you can reach out to us at 847-657-6884 to take your first step toward your initial consultation.
