Myth of Lunchtime Breast Augmentation with your own Fat
Recently, a myth started in the lay press that breast augmentation using your own fat could be performed during your lunchtime. Unfortunately, as appealing as this may be it is not true. The procedure of using your own fat that is removed from your body and then injected into your breasts may be a safe procedure however as a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon I would recommend that you wait until the clinical research is complete. As a member of our two major Societies, ASPS (American Society of Plastic surgery) and ASAPS (American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) we only want to promote safe procedures. At the present time this procedure has potential risks. In the future when you are trying to detect breast cancer the fat cells may have become calcified and make the diagnosis more complicated and you may need unnecessary breast biopsies. Just stay tuned for future updates on whether using your own fat for breast augmentation is a safe and reliable procedure. In 2007, breast enlargement using saline and silicone implants performed by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon is still considered the safest procedure for breast enhancement.
