There is nothing as effective as surgery to remove unwanted fat deposits that resist diet and exercise. Unfortunately, it can’t stop there. What makes the outcome ‘successful’ longterm is when a patient continues to maintain proper nutrition, daily exercise and adequate sleep. Maintaining one’s diet and workout routine along with surgery will definitely contribute to long-lasting results that all patients (and doctors) want!
What I do is work with my patients pre-surgically and post-surgically to try and identify healthy lifestyles that will help maintain their liposuction results.
These patterns could be
1. Eating the wrong foods (excess of foods that are high in fat or starchy carbohydrates)
2. Not exercising daily
3. Not getting adequate sleep
This educational process is rewarding to me because I believe in helping my patients better understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Question:
After lipo do you need a tummy tuck? Is there alot of skin left hanging?
Answer:
You may or may not need both. It depends on an individuals skin elasticity. When a patient has rapid weight gains or losses (pregnancy for example) sometimes the skin does not bounce back. The patient can pull it away and it sags. So these patients, regardless of their age, need skin resection when that body part is addressed. Evaluating a persons skin elasticity is a key element for all body contouring procedures. The best way to evaluate that is to come in for a consultation. During consultation I can tell whether liposuction alone will be effective in removing unwanted fat and whether your skin has the ability to shrink naturally.
It’s important to note that Liposuction alone will only remove the unwanted fat! Lipo does not tighten the skin. However, the fat will not come back if a patient maintains their weight and continues to keep their muscles toned.
Patients often ask about devices which are marketed as ’skin tightening devices’, the truth of the matter is that there is no device that consistently tightens skin. If skin tightening is your goal then Smart Lipo, the laser from Cutera called Tighten & Tummy tucks (ie removal of tummy skin) are required when your skin has lost its elasticity.
I tell my patients to stay tuned for devices that will work to tighten skin and decrease cellulite, I will try to keep patients as well informed as possible. Question
I am interested in having a neck lift. Can you tell me about the procedure. I heard it is a procedure?
Answer
Depending on your situation perhaps a facelift or neck lift would help you reach your goal of a “tighter” yet not ‘too tight’ fresh faced look. If you have good skin elasticity liposuction is often used to remove little fat deposits in the neck area. As a result of the procedure the skin contracts and shrinks; therefore this may the solution to achieve the results you seek.
