Question:
I’m 48 but my eyes say otherwise! What can I do to make my eyes look younger and not so
saggy??? I look so tired.
Answer:
I hear this from my patients frequently. Blepharoplasty (surgery performed to improve the
appearance of eyelids) is an excellent solution. I believe this is one of the most rewarding
procedures because you will literally “see” your looks transform and improve!
For many individuals, an upper blepharoplasty can be done under local anesthesia in my office.
The procedure is outpatient, lasts about one hour and is virtually painless. Results are usually
seen in less than one week with appropriate care (avoiding aspirin prior to the procedure; 2 or 3
post-op sessions of manual lymphatic drainage therapy). Final results will take several weeks
for swelling to resolve completely, but you are able to resume normal activities including vigorous
exercise in 2 weeks relatively quickly (1 week or less).
In addition to this procedure, I would recommend:
- A daily routine of a good eye cream
- Latisse™, a prescription strength product that has been clinically proven to lengthen, thicken and darken eyelashes with continued use.
- Regular Injections of Neurotoxins (Botox or Dysport) to maintain brow position and reduce wrinkles.
These steps will have a transformative effect!

Question:
My skin seems to suffer more in the winter – what do you recommend for treating clogged pores and combination oily/very dry skin?
Answer:
Skin is visibly affected by extremes in temperature and requires extra care, especially if you have combination or excessively dry skin. My recommendation is to start a good, guided skincare routine that is developed specifically for you. If you have dry skin, use a gentle cleanser, toner and daily moisturizer that will help you maintain a healthy radiant appearance. I advise my patients to use the Clarisonic Skincare system which is an excellent method of deep cleansing (without stripping the skin) at home. This system significantly helps exfoliate the outer layer of skin, which will prepare your skin for a balanced schedule of Retin-A 3x per week and Moisturizer (on the nights you are not using Retin-A).
At Casas Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, we offer several cleansers and moisturizers which we help you select based on your skincare needs. The Clarisonic Skincare System is available for purchase in my Glenview and Highland Park locations as well! Sonic cleansing makes a significant difference! It removes 6 times more makeup than manual cleaning but is still gentle enough for delicate and sensitive skin.
Make good skincare routine an important part of your life! The investment in time and energy are worth the results!
Skincare consultations are available on a complimentary basis at both Casas Aesthetic Plastic Surgery locations!

CNN Health quotes Dr. Laurie Casas in a discussion regarding the injury President Obama suffered Friday: “Split lip an injury known to many”.
“Dr. Laurie Casas, a clinical associate professor of surgery at the University of Chicago Pritzer School of Medicine, said that 12 stitches aren’t a lot, since each stitch can be as small as two to three millimeters.
