How to Find A Qualified Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon

Below is a list to which you may want to refer when interviewing or considering a Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
- Be on guard if your prospective surgeon says he/she ‘does everything’.
- Ask your surgeon what he/she does most often and don’t be afraid to ask for more details!
- Do some research before you meet a prospective plastic surgeon. Check to see if he/she is board certified. It is easy to determine whether a doctor is board certified in Plastic Surgery, simply go to www.abplsurg.org or www.surgery.org
- Ask to see photos or talk to a former patient who had the same procedure you are considering
- Ask about complication rates, risks and benefits and any concerns you may have until you are satisfied.
It is helpful to hear what one’s options are, so ask your surgeon if he/she sees options and/or alternatives to the procedure. What are they and what would the advantages be? Also, don’t shy away from shopping around for a surgeon you feel comfortable with; consultations are key! It is recommended that patients consult with 2 or 3 surgeons prior to deciding which is best for them.
