Dr. Laurie Casas interviewed on NPR
Prior to the FDA approval of silicone gel breast implants in 2006, Dr. Laurie Casas was interviewed on NPR following the FDA advisory committee’s decision in 2005 not to widen sales of silicone gel breast implants due to the alleged association of silicone implants with systemic disease. Dr. Casas maintains,
“I looked at the Institutes of Medicine (IOM) report in 2000 and at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) reports in 2004. Those two reports were the most well-documented in terms of the association between silicone gel implants and systemic diseases, and both show no association.”
