Dr. Casas also mentions the controversy over silicone gel breast implants and says that although there has been no conclusive evidence linking silicone gel breast implants with systemic disease, other side effects may occur.

“In less than 10 percent of cases, either kind can deflate, leak or become wrinkled, requiring another operation to replace the damaged implant.”
