Dramatic Weight Loss
(Post-Bariatric) Procedures
Proper diet and exercise with or without gastric bypass, or bariatric surgery may leave patients with sagging skin and excess fat that will not tighten. Even after reaching their target weight, some patients are not satisfied with the excess skin that can remain after dramatic weight loss.
Dr. Casas will discuss with you a variety of body contouring procedures that will remove the sagging skin and excess fat, including neck lifts, facelifts, arm lifts, breast lifts with or without augmentation, abdominoplasty, lower body lifts, thigh lifts, and butt lifts. The results of these body contouring surgeries will be visible almost immediately, but the final result will be complete many months after surgery when the scarring and swelling have completely subsided.
Lower Body Lift
Dr. Casas will discuss a possible lower body lift, or “belt lipectomy,” which corrects the sagging skin of the abdomen, outer thighs, buttocks, hips, and waist. Incisions extend completely around the body at or below the waistline to remove a “belt” of excess skin and fat. The procedure is outlined to the right. The results of your lower body lift will be visible almost immediately, but the final result will be complete many months after surgery when the scarring and swelling have completely subsided.
In the initial consultation, Dr. Casas will discuss common procedures following dramatic weight loss including:
Face and Neck Lift
Arm Lift
Breast Lift
Abdominoplasty (Abdominal Reshaping or Tummy Tuck)
Thigh Lift
Panniculectomy
Dr. Casas will discuss whether panniculectomy, a procedure performed to remove the hanging pannus, or apron of skin, from the lower abdomen below the belly button or a variation of an abdominoplasty will best accomplish your goals. If panniculectomy is recommended, the excess skin and fat above the belly button are not removed. A panniculectomy is often performed to reduce skin irritation caused by their hanging skin.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage, administered by massage, is used after each procedure to reduce swelling. The number of sessions is individualized. It is important that patients follow a healthy lifestyle leading up to and following procedures, including non-smoking, a healthy diet and daily vitamins. Click here to learn more.
