Sculptra™ is an FDA-approved injectable product that restores and corrects the signs of facial fat loss by replacing lost volume. Facial fat loss, or lipoatrophy, is the loss of fat beneath the skin which occurs with the normal aging process, after weight loss, or due to a medical condition. This can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes and temples, leaving you with excess sagging skin especially around the mouth. Sculptra™ works by filling in hollow areas and by stimulating the body to produce collagen and underlying tissue for a long-lasting, fuller, natural, and more youthful look. By filling out the deflated skin, the sagging face appears tighter. Sculptra™ is composed of the same substance used in dissolvable stitches and various soft tissue implants.

In your initial consultation, Dr. Casas will discuss whether Sculptra™ or an alternative surgical or non-surgical procedure will best achieve your expectations. Dr. Casas will also outline a pre-treatment and a post-treatment supplement regimen to minimize swelling and bruising and to hasten the recovery process.

If you are a good candidate, Dr. Casas will inject Sculptra™. You will then massage the treated areas for several days to stimulate your skin. In two months, you and Dr. Casas will assess whether the single treatment created the desired effect. A series of Sculptra™ treatments are often needed to fill out the sagging skin and wrinkles. Each treatment session is assessed after two to three months and together with Dr. Casas you will decide if more treatments are needed to maximize the benefits of Sculptra™. This non-surgical treatment is often used with other soft tissue fillers. Once the facial skin has volume restoration, surgical procedures like facelifts can be used to remove extra skin of the face and neck.
