A buttock lift (butt lift) can help to restore shape due to aging or resulting after a significant weight loss. This procedure can lead to a major improvement in appearance and often leads to a boost in self-confidence.
At the initial consultation, Dr. Casas will examine your areas of concern, noting the skin elasticity and its amount and distribution. Together, you will decide whether a butt lift alone or in combination with an abdominoplasty, liposuction, or other surgical or non-surgical procedures will best achieve your expectations.
What to Expect After Your Buttock Lift
Dr. Casas will conceal the incisions in the waistline and in areas covered by undergarments or bathing suits. The day after surgery, Dr. Casas will encourage you to walk around to promote blood circulation. However, she will ask you to avoid straining, bending, and lifting for at least four weeks to improve scarring and to help reduce swelling. Narrow drainage tubes placed to help reduce swelling and drain excess fluid and to help avoid accumulation of fluids will be removed when they stop draining, typically within one week. Stitches that do not dissolve will be removed within two to four weeks. Dr. Casas will ask you to continue to wear a support garment for a few months after surgery to further minimize swelling. Patients are typically able to return to non-strenuous work within two to four weeks. You will be able to enjoy your reshaped buttock within a few months as your incisions fully heal and swelling has subsided.
Buttock Lift Post-Surgical Care
Manual Lymphatic Drainage, administered by massage, is used after each procedure to reduce swelling. The number of sessions is individualized. Buttock Lift FAQs
A butt lift, also referred to as a buttock lift, and a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) are surgical procedures designed to reshape and enhance the buttocks, but they involve different techniques. A traditional butt lift in Chicago focuses on removing excess skin and fat, effectively lifting and reshaping the buttocks, while a BBL uses a fat transfer method to add volume and enhance the overall contour and shape of the buttocks.
Sagging buttocks can be caused by factors such as significant weight loss or aging, which can lead to a loss of skin elasticity. In addition, genetics may play a role, as some people naturally have looser skin in that area. Hormonal changes during pregnancy or menopause can also contribute to sagging. Lifestyle factors such as poor posture, lack of exercise, and prolonged sitting can weaken the gluteal muscles, resulting in reduced support for the buttocks. Furthermore, wearing tight clothing, like skinny jeans or thongs, may restrict blood flow and impact muscle tone over time.
Sagging buttocks surgery in Chicago is typically carried out under general anesthesia. A qualified Chicago buttock lift surgeon, such as Dr. Casas, will make an incision—usually along the upper curve of the buttocks or at the top of the thigh—to lift and reshape the area. The process involves removing excess skin and fat while tightening the remaining tissues.
Recovery from a butt lift generally requires about six weeks. In the initial two weeks, patients must avoid sitting or lying directly on their buttocks, gradually returning to normal activities in the following weeks. It can take 3-6 months for the final results to fully manifest as swelling decreases.
Patients should expect some scarring following skin tightening for buttocks in Chicago, as with any surgical procedure. The extent and visibility of scars can vary; however, traditional buttock lifts, which involve larger incisions, may leave more noticeable scars.
Results from a traditional butt lift are often long-lasting, with many patients enjoying their outcomes for a decade or more, although factors such as weight changes, lifestyle, and post-operative care can influence the longevity of the procedure.
It is not uncommon for patients to experience some pain and discomfort after a lower body lift in Chicago. Typically during the first few days, patients will experience some soreness, bruising, and swelling. Pain management is typically effective, but individual experiences can vary.
Yes, a butt lift can be combined with other cosmetic procedures for a more comprehensive enhancement of body contour. It is common to see butt lifts paired with liposuction, tummy tucks, or breast augmentations for a more balanced physique.
It is essential to recognize that while the results of a butt lift can be long-lasting, they are not strictly permanent. Natural aging and weight fluctuations may alter the appearance of the buttocks over time.
As with any surgical procedure, a traditional butt lift carries inherent risks such as infection, bleeding, and delayed wound healing. Potential complications may include fluid accumulation, asymmetry, changes in sensation, and in rare instances, severe complications such as fat embolism.
After a butt lift, patients should avoid placing direct pressure on the buttocks for at least 2–3 weeks. A specialized pillow or cushion can provide support during sitting. Most patients can resume regular sitting habits after 4–6 weeks but should wait to obtain clearance from Dr. Casas to ensure adequate healing has been achieved.
Returning to normal activities following a butt lift in Chicago can typically occur after 4–6 weeks. While light work duties may be resumed around 1–2 weeks post-surgery, more strenuous activities that exert pressure on the buttocks should be postponed longer for optimal recovery.
