On the day of your SmartLipo procedure, Dr. Casas first numbs the skin and then, after making tiny incisions no larger than the tip of a pencil, painlessly infuses anesthetic under the skin. There is no need for IV lines and no general anesthesia. Once the layer of fat is completely numb, a fiber optic thread the size of a strand of thin pasta delivers the laser energy that melts fat and tightens skin.
