What Proposed 5% Cosmetic Tax Means to the Consumer?

Have you heard of the cosmetic surgery tax which was part of the recent Senate Health Reform bill? At the 11th hour, a cosmetic surgery tax provision was slipped in the Senate Health Reform bill. The proposal asks for the consumer who undergoes an elective cosmetic procedure, to pay a 5 % tax to the government for any procedure like Botox, Fillers, Breast Augmentations and Lifts, Tummy Tucks, Facelifts and Body Contouring. However, the bill states that even insurance covered procedures may be taxed! Will our senators and representatives also tax breast reconstruction and the opposite breast for procedures that help […]

Your Voice is Needed: Oppose The Cosmetic Surgery Tax

ASPS has launched a hotline for our members and their patients to contact their Senators on the 5% cosmetic tax. Senators say they are not hearing from you and your patients. ASPS has spoken publicly against the addition of this tax and relayed many arguments against it to Congress and the press. We urge you to do the same! Now that debate has begun, reaching out to your Senators is more vital than ever. Once you have reviewed the talking points, use the toll-free hotline at 1-877-221-8207 and urge your Senators to block this tax. Once you call in, you will […]

Victory Over “BoTax”

Your voices were heard by the Senate. “Botax” the proposed tax on cosmetic procedures was dropped from the Senate health reform legislation… Thousands of citizens, like you, strongly objected to the Botax which as we all know would have been highly discriminatory (primarily aimed at the female population since 86% of all procedures are requested by women, and 91% are working women). Without your help, there would not have been enough opposition to make a difference. A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU !!! How can I get more information? Call now for your complimentary consultation. You may reach us at the Chicago […]

Why Choose Restylane or Perlane from All the Other Possible Fillers?

Question: With all the options for Facial Soft tissue fillers available, why should I choose Restylane® or Perlane®? Answer: Restylane® continues to be the #1 dermal filler in the world. Restylane® is a safe skin filler made with hyaluronic acid (HA) that is used to fill the aging lines of the face. Perlane® is a similar filler but because of it ‘s larger particle size, it is used for deep lines of the face. Both Restylane and Perlane are FDA approved for the treatment of moderate to deep facial wrinkles such as the nasolabial folds that are commonly found around the […]

What does Dr. Casas recommend to restore a more youthful appearing face?

Question: Why does Dr. Casas recommend injecting Sculptra ® Aesthetic in conjunction with topical Retin-A daily to restore a more youthful appearing face? Does using topical Retin-A enhance the result of Sculptra® Aesthetic? Reply: The combination of a Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment with consistent use of topical Retin-A continues to fascinate me. I completed a 106 patient study on the synergy of these two very effective treatments and found that their use in combination can be powerfully effective. Sculptra® Aesthetic is injected just below the skin and then proceeds to stimulate the growth of one’s own collagen through an inflammatory process. The Retin-A […]

Mid 30’s, Want a Bridal Makeover? Who to Consult?

Question: If I want to look my best for my wedding, (I am in my mid 30’s) who should I consult? Answer: First you should consult with someone like me, a Board certified Plastic Surgeon who will honestly review your options for helping to make your dreams become a reality. Brides want to look their best for many reasons. It is a very special day and most brides are photographed quite a bit. I always recommend a good skincare program but especially before the wedding, it is a good idea to ‘step it up’ with professional exfoliation like a Blue Peel […]

Are Teenagers Appropriate Candidates for Cosmetic Plastic Surgery?

Question: Are teenagers appropriate candidates for cosmetic plastic surgery? Answer: It truly depends on the individual. The consultation is an important time for both of us (the teenaged patient and myself) to evaluate if the timing and expectations are a good match. If it is not clear that the patient is emotionally mature, and has reasonable expectations, I do not believe it is appropriate for that teenager to undergo plastic surgery. Cosmetic plastic surgery is a commitment to change and it is essential to know and understand your reasons for wanting to make this change. As physicians, we have an ethical responsibility […]
