Botox®

Botulinum toxin injections (Botox®) are used for the treatment of frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead lines, and “crow’s feet” associated with aging or unwanted facial expressions. Dr. Casas will discuss ways to use Botox® that will allow your eyes to look more youthful and less angry. She believes that using too much Botox® will result in an unnatural, expressionless face. Together you will decide the best way to use Botox® to achieve your desired result.

The full effect of Botox® is typically achieved within a few days but may take up to fourteen days. Almost immediately after the procedure, you may resume normal activity. Most side effects like localized bruising and pain are mild and of short duration. To maintain the desired result, Botox® treatments are needed every three to four months.

Dr. Casas will discuss with you whether your result may be enhanced with skin care products, dermal fillers, or other surgical or non-surgical procedures.

Dysport

DysportDysport™ is a new FDA approved Botulinum toxin injection which is used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines in adults younger than 65 years of age. Like Botox Cosmetic®, Dysport™ is a protein extracted from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. Dysport™ was FDA approved in the US in April of 2009 but has been approved for cosmetic use in Europe since 1990. Dysport™ will help relax muscles in the face that create unwanted expressions, such as frown lines between the brows, lines in the forehead, and crows feet. Frown lines and wrinkles occur because the muscles that control facial expression are used often (smiling, squinting, etc.) After Dysport™ is injected into the muscle, those muscles are relaxed for up to 12 to 16 weeks or even longer.

During your consultation Dr. Casas will discuss ways to use Dysport™ that will allow your eyes, forehead, and brows to look more youthful and rested. Together you will decide the best way to use Dysport™ to achieve your desired result. Dr. Casas will also discuss with you whether your result may be enhanced with skin care products, dermal fillers, or other surgical or non-surgical procedures.

In clinical trials, Dysport™ was shown to have a fast onset of 2 to 3 days for most people, but the final result should not be expected until 14 days after injection. You can go about your normal routine immediately after the injection. Most side effects are mild, and may include localized bruising and soreness. To maintain your results, Dysport™ treatments are needed every three to four months.

Jeuveau™

Jeuveau™ (prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs) is a new FDA approved toxin injection for the treatment of frown lines between the eyebrows. Jeuveau™ can also be used to treat and relax forehead lines, crow’s feet and other unwanted facial expressions. Frown lines and wrinkles occur due to over active facial muscles that control facial expression (smiling, squinting, etc). After Jeuveau™ is injected into facial muscles, those muscles are relaxed for 12 to 16 weeks and sometimes even longer

Dr. Laurie Casas and her medical team will discuss ways to use Jeuveau™ to soften your facial expressions, creating a more youthful and less angry look. The full effect of Jeuveau™ is typically seen within a few days but can take up to two weeks. Nearly immediately after the procedure, you may resume normal activity. To maintain results with Jeuveau™, it is recommended that you receive treatment every three to four months. Most side effects are mild, and may include localized bruising and soreness. Dr. Casas will also discuss other treatments that will help rejuvenate the face, including skin care products, dermal fillers, or other non-surgical or surgical procedures.

Xeomin®

XEOMIN® is a prescription medication used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar frown lines between the eyes in adults. It was approved by the FDA in 2011 for aesthetic treatment of glabellar frown lines.

Facial lines are often caused by continuous expression over the years. Frowning, squinting and smiling are typical facial expressions that cause these lines to develop as the skin ages and loses elasticity. The active ingredient in XEOMIN® is Botulinum Toxin type A. The way it works is by acting on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting. By reducing the muscular contractions, Xeomin can temporarily reduce frown lines between your eyes.

It is in the same category as Botox and Dysport; the main difference is that it does not have additives. It is possible that the lack of additives in the product could have an advantage of patients being less likely to develop resistance to Xeomin.

During your consultation Dr. Casas will discuss ways to use Xeomin that will reduce wrinkles and help shape brow position. Together you will decide the best way to use Xeomin to achieve your desired result. Dr. Casas will also discuss with you whether your result may be enhanced with skin care products, dermal fillers, or other surgical or non-surgical procedures.

Typically, an injection takes about 10 to 20 minutes of time in the office. It is not necessary to anesthetize the area before injecting and patients can immediately resume normal activities.

Some patients observe visible smoothing as early as 3-4 days after injection. In clinical trials, the median first onset of effect was less than a week. The maximum effect occurred at 30 days. The typical duration of effect was up to 3 months in clinical trials* but may last significantly longer or shorter in individual patients.

To maintain results, treatment is recommended every three to four months.
