Question: What causes saggy breasts and will breast feeding increase my chances of sagginess? If a breast lift is deemed necessary will my cup size change? What is typical recovery time for a breast lift?
Answer: There are two main factors that cause breasts to sage; one being changes in breast size and the other is poor skin elasticity! Changes in breast size most often occurs when you lose weight or during the pregnancy and nursing period. Keep in mind that deciding to breast feed will also increase your chance for sagginess, more so if you have poor skin elasticity.

Question: Are there any clinical advantages to Breast Reduction surgery other than simply reducing the size because they look too big for my body?
Answer: Breast Reduction surgery can improve one’s overall appearance AND help alleviate recurring symptoms that women with large breasts often experience.
Some of those include rashes underneath the breasts as well as shoulder, neck and back pain. Deep grooving in the shoulder area can also happen when bra straps dig into the skin. In addition, overly large breasts can cause premature sagging of the skin, causing the nipples to point downward. All of these effects can be corrected, […]

Question: Are teenagers appropriate candidates for cosmetic plastic surgery?
Answer: It truly depends on the individual.
The consultation is an important time for both of us (the teenaged patient and myself) to evaluate if the timing and expectations are a good match. If it is not clear that the patient is emotionally mature, and has reasonable expectations, I do not believe it is appropriate for that teenager to undergo plastic surgery. Cosmetic plastic surgery is a commitment to change and it is essential to know and understand your reasons for wanting to make this change. As physicians, we have an ethical responsibility […]
“Dr. Laurie Casas, a Chicago-area aesthetic surgeon, was one of the few female surgeons who had a visible role in the conference leadership this year. Casas, who is president of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation, says the gender divide in ASAPS is easily explainable… Why an estimated 94 percent of Casas’ surgery patients are female requires a more complicated explanation.”

Question: Is it true that Silicone breast implants are safe?
Answer: The short answer is yes. Silicone breast implants that are FDA approved since the lifting of the moratorium in 2006 are safe. The real issue is whether you are a good candidate for breast enlargement with either saline or silicone gel breast implants. Typically women who are in good health and who have either not had breast development (congenital Micromastia) or had normal breasts but saw them disappear after pregnancy or lactation or weight loss are excellent candidates for considering breast augmentation. The key is to come in to see […]
Question: Are the results from a breast lift permanent?
Answer: Nothing on our body that we are born with or have had altered by cosmetic surgery is “permanent”. Our breast size can change as our weight and hormone levels change during our lives. In addition, many patients who desire a breast lift have poor skin elasticity and loss of breast volume due to fluctuations in their weight and/or following breast feeding.
Certain aspects of a breast lift, like the position of the nipple typically does not change but the lower half of the breast can “bottom out” over time. Patients who have […]
