At Casas Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, we have helped numerous women and men restore their confidence in the appearance of their midsection by providing them with outstanding results from their tummy tuck procedure. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Laurie Casas can use her surgical skill and experience to give your stomach the tight and toned appearance you want.

What Is a Tummy Tuck?

“Tummy tuck”, or abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that can remove excess skin and fat from the upper, middle, and lower abdomen. Whether you also need liposuction, muscle tightening, and relocation of your “belly button” or umbilicus, these details will be decided at your initial consultation. Abdominoplasty can dramatically reduce the excess skin and fat that can occur following pregnancy and dramatic weight loss.

At your initial consultation, Dr. Casas will examine your abdomen. She will assess your skin tone, the degree of loose skin in your abdominal region, the amount of excess fat in your abdomen, and the condition of your abdominal muscles to determine what type of abdominoplasty will best achieve your desired result.

The Mini-Tummy Tuck

Oftentimes, “mini abdominoplasty” or “skin-only abdominoplasty” can be performed on patients whose primary issue is the presence of excess loose skin around the abdominal area. This option can provide outstanding results and the recovery period is shorter. Dr. Casas can let you know if a mini-tummy tuck is the right choice for you after examining your stomach during your consultation.

Preparing for Your Tummy Tuck

Dr. Casas will discuss with you the best method of anesthesia, whether local, general or with an epidural. Dr. Casas will review and educate you if needed on proper nutrition and exercise. She believes that proper diet and exercise are necessary to maintain your results. Dr. Casas believes that these habits need to be in place prior to undertaking a body contouring surgical procedure so that the results will be long-lasting.

Tummy Tuck Overview

Generally, a horizontal incision is placed just within or above the pubic area. If there is loose skin above the navel, the surgeon may make a second incision around the navel. Skin in the shaded area is separated from the abdominal wall.

To tighten the abdominal wall, the surgeon brings loose underlying tissue and muscle together with sutures.

Abdominal skin is pulled downward, and the excess is removed. A small opening is made to bring the navel through.

After surgery, the patient has a flatter, trimmer abdomen. Scars are permanent, but will fade with time.

Tummy Tuck Recovery

The day after surgery, Dr. Casas will encourage you to walk around to promote blood circulation. However, she will ask you to avoid straining, bending, and lifting for at least four to eight weeks to help reduce scarring and swelling. Narrow drainage tubes placed to help remove excess fluid and to help reduce swelling will be removed within one to two weeks. Stitches will be removed within two to four weeks. Dr. Casas will ask you to continue to wear a support garment for a few months after surgery to further minimize swelling. Patients are typically able to return to non-strenuous work within one to two weeks. You will be able to enjoy your reshaped abdomen within months as your swelling subsides.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage, administered by massage, is used after each procedure to reduce swelling. The number of sessions is individualized. It is important that patients follow a healthy lifestyle leading up to and following procedures, including non-smoking, a healthy diet and daily vitamins. Click here to learn more.

What To Tell Your Kids About Your Plastic Surgery?

Tummy Tuck FAQs

  • Who is Considered a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

When considering a tummy tuck procedure, it’s vital that your mental and physical health is in relatively good condition for numerous reasons. Any kind of body modification shouldn’t be taken lightly, but a tummy tuck procedure can do wonders for your health and overall self-esteem.
It’s crucial that you’re pursuing this procedure for yourself and not because of someone else’s outside input. Dr. Casas (Your surgeon) will also take into account various health factors such as your current weight and the state of your physical health. They’ll inform you that it also helps if you’re a non-smoker. Aside from that, they’ll cover topics such as your aesthetic expectations. If you’re truly bothered by the appearance of your abdomen, we’d be more than happy to be your go-to choice for a tummy tuck in Chicago.

  • What is the Expected Cost of a Tummy Tuck Procedure?

The tummy tuck cost in Chicago can vary greatly, but you can expect a rough cost of about $8,000-10,000(6,000) for the procedure. Several aspects come into play for the cost of a tummy tuck, such as your desired results, the techniques used, and the full scope of the work that’s required to complete the procedure.
During your consultation, Dr. Casas will cover all of these aspects with you so you know what to expect. We understand that this can be a challenge for many individuals, and we offer multiple payment options that patients can utilize.

  • How Should I Prepare Before My Tummy Tuck?

It’s vital that you already have a grasp on an exercise regimen and a consistent and proper diet beforehand. Although a tummy tuck can do wonders for the aesthetics of your body, you’ll still need to be able to maintain it after the fact. This is much easier when you already have your exercise, diet, and even your mental health in order. You should also be prepared to talk about any and all questions or requirements during your initial consultation with Dr. Casas. If you don’t have your nutrition and exercise in order, she’ll happily consult you on the steps you need to take to be prepared ahead of your procedure.

  • What’s the Difference Between a Tummy Tuck and Panniculectomy (Skin Only Tummy Tuck)?

Where a tummy tuck focuses on removing excess fat and skin, creating an aesthetic umbilicus, contouring your entire abdomen and flank area and it can also help restore (weakened) separated abdominal muscles to achieve a slimmer and firmer look. A panniculectomy focuses on hanging excess skin and fat, which is commonly associated with pregnancy, aging, substantial weight loss, and many other factors. Although tummy tucks are highly sought after, it’s also a good idea to consider a panniculectomy in Chicago, as it’s possible you may be a better candidate for that particular operation. If you aren’t exactly sure which one is right for you, give us a call at 847-657-6884, and we’d be happy to walk you through it.

  • Are Tummy Tucks Only for Plus-Sized Body Types?

Not at all; many people of all body types can be considered good candidates for a tummy tuck procedure. Considering its aesthetic benefits, people, small and large, commonly seek out the procedure to improve their quality of life and self-esteem. Moreover, Dr. Casas is more than prepared to work with all body types, but each patient must adhere to the before and after requirements to ensure the operation goes according to plan. There may be numerous surgeons who are capable of a plus-size tummy tuck in Chicago, but Dr. Casas’ and her team at Casas Aesthetics Plastic Surgery offer experience and consistent results that are considered to be unrivaled.
