Can I get a Mastopexy (Breast Lift) without Implants?
Question: I’m 25 and considering a Mastopexy after losing a significant amount of weight, can I do it without implants? I’m 5′3 and my bra size is currently 36DD. I’m down to 130 lbs but formerly I weighed 200lbs at my heaviest. I’ve become very self-conscious about the stretch marks and sagging. I’d very much like to have my breasts lifted without implants but from what I’ve read, I’m not sure if that is advisable. Do you advise having this procedure?
Answer: A Mastopexy (Breast Lift) surgery can be done if you are happy with your breast size but are unhappy with your breast shape. The most important question you need to ask yourself is whether you are happy with your breast size. If you are, then I would recommend you seek out a board certified Plastic Surgeon who has experience and documented reliable mastopexy results. Together you can decide whether mastopexy alone will achieve the results you are looking for. Implants might be an option if you are seeking to change breast shape as well. It sounds as if you may be seeking a change in shape and position of your breasts and that is the goal of breast lift surgery. I do recommend that patients have the surgery when they are at a stable weight that they plan to maintain as this could affect the appearance of whether or not your breasts are sagging. It is important to discuss with your surgeon what your long term maternity goals may be and if you have a history of weight fluctuations.
